Gerard Colombo is a French bass player. He dedicated himself to opera singing studying at the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory in Milan and then perfecting under the guidance of the famous baritone Giuseppe Valdengo and the maestro Rodolfo Celletti.
Since 1991 he has been collaborating with the Teatro alla Scala choir in Milan, of which he is part of the permanent staff after winning the international competition of 1994. He then had the opportunity to work with the main directors orchestra of the international scene, from Riccardo Muti to Daniele Barenboim. Previously he graduated in trumpet, he played until 1987 an intense concert activity in France with the Orchester de Paris, the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France, the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and he was an assistant trumpet professor at the Conservatory of the XX Arrondissement of Paris and full professor at the Palaiseau Conservatory and Verneuil-sur-Seine.
As a bassist he has sung in theaters and concert halls in many countries European, in Russia, in the Far East and in South America. In 1995 he has participated in the first performance in modern times of the Joaz oratory of Benedetto Marcello. As a soloist he dedicates himself to the vocal chamber repertoire with particular reference to the French mélodies (Gounod, Fauré, SaintSaëns, Duparc, Hahn, Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc), to the Lieder in German (Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Mahler, Zemlinsky, Richard
Strauss) and the Italian romances (Verdi, Tosti, Mascagni). He has among other things proposed in concert the integral of Mahler's Rückertlieder and realized world premiere recording of the melodie L'arbre by Saint-Saëns e of Romance Love without hope by Carlo Munier for an edited CD from the CMI-IMC label.
