About
Gallowstreet is a Dutch twelve-person brass band from Amsterdam. Gallowstreet plays a mix of hip hop, funk, afrobeat and dance on wind and percussion instruments.
History
The band is named after the Galgenstraat where the band was formed. The band was founded in 2012 and has played at the following festivals, among others; Pitch Festival (2013), Eurosonic Noorderslag, Into the Woods (2014), North Sea Jazz, Lowlands, Where the Wild Things Are, the Dour Festival, Into The Great Wide Open (2015), Oerol, Wildeburg, Lowlands (2016) and Apple doll (2017).
After having released three singles - of which Hattori got a Kraak & Smaak Hansenstraat from 2015 - the debut album Battleplan was released in 2016. In 2017, the band for this album was nominated for an Edison's public award and the fourth single was released.
On February 16, 2018 the band organized its own version of the Honk blazers festival in a sold-out Paradiso in Amsterdam and on May 11, 2018 the band released the second album Hot Lava Sex Machine.
