The pianist Francisco Poyato studied piano, composition and orchestra conducting in Barcelona and Badalona, with professors such as Josep Pons, Salvador Mas, Josep Soler, among others. He studied Lied with Hartmut Höll and Mitsuko Shirai at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he also studied pianoforte and historical interpretation with Anthony Spiri. He has expanded his piano training with Frédéric Gevers, Alain Motard, Menahem Pressler and Dimitri Bashkirov, among others, and de Lied with Edith Mathis, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Thomas Hampson and Robert Holl. He has won several awards, as a soloist and in the field of Lied.
From 1995 to 2001, he served as a repertoire professor in the Singing Department of the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, and was also invited as a teacher to the Sommerakademie of this prestigious center. Since the creation, in 2001, of the Higher School of Music of Catalonia, she teaches Lied's specialty for singing and piano duets. He has also given courses in Lied, Catalan song and "song" in the Paper Hall of Music of Capellades, in the courses of the Schubertíada de Vilabertran and in the Hochschule für Musik de Karlsruhe.
For over twenty years he has been a duo with the soprano Assumpta Mateu. He also works with singers such as Mitsuko Shirai, Ruth Ziesak, Liesbeth Devos, Lluis Vilamajó, Marta Mathéu, Christina Koch or José Ferrero, among others. He is responsible, together with Assumpta Mateu and Lluis Vilamajó, for the first integral recording of Eduard Toldrà's songs for the Columna Música label.
He has offered concerts in Spain: Auditorium of Barcelona, Palau de la Música, Schubertíada de Barcelona and Vilabertrán, Auditorium of the Maestranza in Seville, Manuel de Falla de Granada Festival; Austria: Mozarteum from Salzburg, Linz; Germany: Bavaria, Münster, Stuttgart; Croatia: Lisinzski Hall in Zagreb; France and Portugal He has recorded for Catalunya Ràdio, Radio 2, Channel 33, the German WDR and Radio Zagreb.
