FLORIAN BERNER is a cellist and founding member of the Hugo Wolf Quartet. With this ensemble he has been a guest in all the world's renowned music centers for more than two decades. Extensive concert tours take him all over Europe, to Asia, South and North America, in halls such as Carnegie Hall NY, Cité des Arts in Paris, Berliner Philharmonie, Suntory Hall in Tokyo or the chamber music festival Lockenhaus.
He has received numerous awards such as "Rising Star", "Special Prize of the Vienna Philharmonic" and "European Chamber Music Prize". Numerous CD recordings appear on Gramola, Extraplatte, VMS, cpo and CamJazz.
In 2016, he founds the Alban Berg Ensemble Wien, supported by the Alban Berg Foundation, which gives the ensemble its name. In addition to its international concert activities, the ABEW organizes a concert cycle in the Brahmssaal of the Wiener Musikverein and its own chamber music festival: the "BERGfrühling" in Ossiach.
Florian Berner, born 1973 in Vienna, studied at the Vienna University of Music with Angelica May and the Alban Berg Quartet, followed by formative apprenticeship with Mario Brunello in Italy. Today he himself has the opportunity to pass on knowledge and experience: he holds master classes at numerous American universities, at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Franz Liszt Academy, Budapest, was lecturer for the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, for ((superar)), the Norwegian Youth symphony orchestra, the Ötztaler culture weeks and much more Since 2013 he is Professor at the State Conservatory in Klagenfurt.
He plays a cello by Nicolo Gagliano, Naples in 1819.
