In addition to "Fledermaus" and "The Merry Widow", "Dasweiße Rössl" is one of the 3 most frequently performed operettas not only in German-speaking countries, but worldwide. After its glittering premiere in Berlin in 1930 (at which Charly Chaplin was also a guest), the Rössl tramped in triumph through the entertainment theaters of the European metropolises, primarily Paris and London, where it was played in 1931 in 650 performances ensuite. It came to New York's Broadway in 1936 as the White horse inn. The Rössl describes itself as a Singspiel, but it is more than that - namely the brilliant finale of 60 years of operetta history and is a versatile revue theater that, in addition to folksy sounds and waltz melodies, also brings the jazzy styles and dance forms of the interwar period to the stage.
The Rössl version for the Schloss Weitra Festival will also set a refreshing summer theater accent this time. Artists from musicals, drama and opera play as well as audience favorites such as Joesi Prokopetz, Andy Lee Lang and Ronald Kuste.

About the Weitra Castle Festival
In the summer of 2014, the longstanding director of the Wiener Metropol, Peter Hofbauer, took over the management of the festival at Schloss Weitra. He puts the summer theater in Weitra under the motto "play in the castle" and focuses on the genre "musical comedy" every year. In each piece, the original setting, which is unique in its kind, should be able to "play along" in the truest sense of the word.
The Renaissance arcade courtyard of the Weitra Castle, which has been roofed with funnel umbrellas since 2006 and ensures trouble-free play operations even in bad weather, offers an impressive backdrop.
