Don Quijote, the absurdly funny knight of the sad figure, embodied by character actor and audience favorite Gregor Seberg, fights his heroic battle against windmills and other enemies. Inspired by dreams and visions, he tirelessly asserts his reality against "real" reality. Everything seems full of wit, but is carried by multi-layered seriousness. Experience great world literature, music and fascinating pictures in the special ambience of Perchtoldsdorf Castle. To mark the opening of his directorship, Alexander Paul Kubelka is staging Jakob Nolte’s “Don Quixote”, which premiered at the 2019 Bregenz Festival.

About the Perchtoldsdorf Festival
The medieval castle of Perchtoldsdorf with its spacious courtyard is perfect as a backdrop for a nice evening at the theatre. In their more than 40-year tradition, the Sommerspiele Perchtoldsdorf have not only shaped the cultural identity of Perchtoldsdorf, they have also become a piece of theater history in the province of Lower Austria. The new large castle hall has guaranteed non-stop play since 2010.
Perchtoldsdorf Castle is something very special and therefore the castle also plays a major role in the schedule of the Sommerspiele Perchtoldsdorf: the castle as a genius loci , be it as the castle of Elsinore in "Hamlet", as the acropolis in "Lysistrate", as Castle Fores of Macbeth or 2013, in the "Revisor", as the palace of the governor Anton Antonovich.
In 2014 the castle had to pass the acid test in "Käthchen von Heilbronn", in 2015 Prospero's boat ran aground in the "storm" while crossing the former moat, in 2016 the forest of Midsummer Night's Dream was conjured up out of nowhere in the castle courtyard before the eyes of the public and in 2017 the noblewoman Minna von Barnhelm moved into the old walls.
