About the International festival of Mstislav Rostropovich

Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich - outstanding  Russian cellist, pianist, conductor and teacher, who largely determined the level of performing the art that musicians are striving for today. He was in the heart of the musical world of his time. He was bound by bonds of friendship and creative communication with composers Sergey Prokofiev, Dmitry Shostakovich, Benjamin Britten, pianists Svyatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, violinist Leonid Kogan and many others. It was he who fell to represent Russian music in Europe and America when the USSR was fenced off from the rest of the world by an iron curtain. Mstislav Rostropovich was not only a man of art, but also public figure, and philanthropist.

The festival named after him was founded in 2010 by the Fund for Cultural and Humanitarian Programs of M. L. Rostropovich, with the support of the Government of Moscow and the Ministry of Culture Russian Federation to perpetuate the memory of a musician. The artistic director of the show, Olga Rostropovich, maintains his consistently high level, a congenial personality of the maestro. Take part in the Festival as star performers, famous European and Russian ensembles, and beginners. After all, Mstislav Leopoldovich himself devoted much effort to pedagogy, and the Fund created specifically to support young artists. The main venue of the Festival is the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, whose graduate and teacher was Rostropovich.

The international festival of Mstislav Rostropovich in numbers includes more than thirty invited orchestras, ninety soloists, twelve choral groups, thirty conductors and more than eighty thousand guests. Today it is a bright event in the world music scene, beloved by listeners, kindly criticized.
