The festival delights classical music fans every year around Easter time with newly staged classical concerts and opera performances. Under the direction of star conductor Daniel Barenboim, newly staged classics and premieres are presented. For this purpose, international music stars of the classical scene are regularly brought to the German capital.
András Schiff will performed at the Festtage 2023. He is one of the key Bach and Beethoven performers of our time. He has repeatedly reinterpreted Bach’s works for keyboard, such as the "Wohltemperierte Klavier" and his collections of suites, both live in concert and for recordings. The world of Beethoven’s sonatas has also been an essential reference point for András Schiff in various renderings that have spanned his artistic career.
Daniel Barenboim will perferm the Beethoven’s "Missa solemnis". It is rightly regarded as one of the pinnacles of music history. The Classical Viennese school, the period during the height of the composer’s skill and artistic development, created a huge opus for vocal solos, choir and orchestra. Beethoven struggled hard to compose this work, incorporating numerous suggestions from traditions of church music and his contemporaries. For everyone involved in its performance, the »Missa solemnis« is a challenge of a special kind, a monolith in the history of Classical Romantic music.
About the Festtage
The unique collaboration between Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin began in the early 1990s with Beethoven’s symphonies.
Since then, they have continued to pursue and deepen their interest in the First Viennese School. This cultural highlight is always performed around Easter.
