The ensemble unitedberlin emerged from the historic stroke of luck of reunification. It was founded in Berlin in 1989 - a symbol of the regained connection between music and musicians in the long divided city. unitedberlin crosses borders not only in the musical but also in the international sense: guest concerts at festivals of new music in Albania, Brazil, France, Israel, Poland, Russia, Spain, South Korea, China, Hungary, Switzerland, Iran and in the USA accompany the regular Work of the ensemble in Berlin.
What have we been doing for 30 years? Are we still in a similar situation with our work, the presentation of new music in the concert hall, as we did over 100 years ago, when compositions that have just been created could only be experienced live and Anton Webern wrote after the premiere of the Pierrot lunaire in Berlin: “But in the end there was no trace of contradiction. Schoenberg and the performers had to come often and often, especially Schoenberg, of course; people kept shouting for him in the hall. It was an absolute success. “No, it's not like that anymore - but we want to experience that again !! To use an idea from the visual arts: In our mediating role of interpreter, we see ourselves as quasi gallery owners of the musical avant-garde - with the ambition to create a profitable situation for creators and recipients of contemporary music.
Unitedberlin works with the most renowned conductors. The exchange with international and young composers based in Berlin shapes the current work.
