Kebyart Ensemble is a saxophone quartet that was born in 2014 within the Higher School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC) composed of Pere Méndez, soprano saxophone; Víctor Serra, alto saxophone; Robert Seara, tenor sax; and Daniel Miguel, baritone sax. Under the tutelage of Nacho Gascón, professor of saxophone and chamber music of the center, they develop an ambitious formation that aims to surprise and captivate the public but above all innovate in the way of understanding the quartet traditionally as well as breaking down barriers and searching through the formation of ensemble new sounds and concert proposals that can cover all kinds of styles, creations and performances in order to create an original, fresh and special product.
All members of the quartet study the superior degree of interpretation of classical and contemporary music at the ESMUC. As a quartet, they have received classes and advice from prestigious professors such as David Albet, Mariano García, Christophe Bois and Albert Julià.
In addition to their work as members of the quartet, they develop their training as saxophonists, which leads them to collaborate in renowned formations such as the Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona and Catalonia (OBC), the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (JONC), the Symphony Orchestra from the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Municipal Band of Barcelona ... During their career as performers they have been able to play in some of the most important concert halls in Catalonia, such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, the different auditorium rooms in Barcelona, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Mozart Room and the AXA auditorium, among others.
The name Kebyart aims to reflect the sonic possibilities of the sax quartet. Kebyart comes from one of Indonesia's traditional instrumental ensembles, the gamelan gong kebyar, originally from the island of Bali. Kebyar means "the flowering process", and is reflected in the explosive changes of tempo, dynamics, character ...
As a quartet they have been awarded different prizes for chamber music performance as the 2nd prize in the 84th Permanent Competition of Musical Youth of Spain, 1st prize in the X International Competition of Chamber Music Higini Anglès and they were also awarded as finalists in the 11th International Chamber of Les Corts Contest, among others.
They have participated in different festivals, such as the Reus Windfest, in the 16th Vinaròs Chamber Music Festival and in the Joves & Clàssica at the Casa Elizalde in Barcelona organized by Musical Youth of Barcelona. 30 minutes of music from the Fundació Mas i Mas will participate in the festival.
