About
Aeneas Scala, the famous Italian bel canto tenor, has received worldwide recognition for his exceptional performances in Rossini operas. His repertoire includes such famous roles as Rinaldo in "Armida", Argyrio in "Tancred", Pirro in "Hermione", Idreno in "Semiramis" and Othello.
Scala was born in Ragusa, Italy. As a teenager, he sang in a choir and took vocal lessons, inspired by bel canto operas. He studied at the Bologna Conservatory and made his debut in 2006 at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. He performed leading roles such as Lindoro in The Italian Girl in Algeria (Rossini) and appeared at the Rossini Pesaro Opera Festival. He later starred in La Traviata (Verdi), Falstaff, and The Bat (Strauss), moving to more lyrical characters.
In 2014, he played Count Belfiore in The Imaginary Gardener (Mozart) and starred in Armida (Rossini) in 2015. In 2016, he performed Adelson in Adelson and Salvini (Bellini) with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
In recent years, Scala has performed at prestigious venues, including the Royal Opera House (2015, William Tell), the New Zealand Opera (2017, La Traviata), and the Frankfurt Opera (2019, Othello).
