Ödön Rácz is a Hungarian double bass artist, since 2009 he has been the lead bass player of the Vienna Philharmonic.
His father was also a big bass player, and from his early childhood he was sure that he would follow him. In 1990 he began his double bass studies at the Tóth Aladár Music School. From 1990 to 1996, he was sometimes a soloist. From 1996 to 2000, he studied at the Szent István music Secondary School. In 1996, in the classical music category, did he win the talent show? National Music Competition. His first solo album, Giovanni Bottesini, Johannes Matthias Sperger and Hans Fryba, was released in 1887. In 2000, the Euro Grand Prix International Music Festival was selected as one of the eight best young musicians in Europe.
He also performed a solo concert at the Hanover Expo in 2000 with an orchestra accompaniment. From 2001 he continued his studies at the Academy of music in Vienna, led by Alois Posch. In 2002, the institution won its first place in the soloist competition. He was also awarded the special prize of the jury of the Johann Prunner international wholesale competition in 2002. He finished third in 2003 at the ARD International bass competition, where he produced a joint record with Gergé Kerbányi. In 2004 he was accepted as a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. Three years later, he founded the Philharmonics group with some of the band's solos. In 2008 he became a member of the Kraut Kreisler Chamber Orchestra and teaches at the Salzburg Summer Academy.
He performed as a soloist with notable bands such as the Munich Chamber Orchestra, The Bavarian Radio Orchestra, The Bergen Philharmonic. It was conducted by Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Mutti, Daniel Barenboim, Gustavo Dudamel. He also performed in chamber music formations at the Salzburg Festival, the Luzern Festival and the Izmir Festival. Among his chamber members are René Staar, Tibor Kovács and Xavier de Maistre, who also produced records.
2018. on 23 January he performed a particularly successful concert at the Budapest Academy of music with the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra and as a solo soloist.
