About

Danielle Russo is choreographer and performer based in New York City. Her choreography has been presented nationally at the American Dance Festival, Armory Arts Week, Detroit Institute of Arts, Governors Island, Jacob’s Pillow, and The Yard; and internationally in Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Mexico, Panama, South Korea, Spain, and Sweden. She is Artistic Director of Danielle Russo Performance Project.

As a choreographer, Russo is often commissioned for the stage, as well as for both public and private installations. However, her independent work concentrates in performance for unconventional formats and environments. This ranges to include immersive, installation, and site-specific models of engaging new audiences in architectural, historical, and politically charged spaces, frequently in the public realm. She has been awarded artist residencies at Chez Bushwick (NYC), Nadine Laboratory for the Contemporary Arts (Brussels, Belgium), Performing Arts Forum (St. Erme, France), Independent Artists Initiative WUK (Vienna, Austria), Mana Contemporary (NJ), Silo (NYC, PA), and Springboard Danse Montréal (Canada). In 2015 – 2016, she was selected as a LEIMAY Fellow and cultivated work at its affiliate space, CAVE (NYC).

She and her work have been featured in The Creators Project, Dance Magazine, and The Village Voice, to name a few. Most recently, her commission for the Los Angeles-based No)one. Art House caught the attention of Solange Knowles and prompted a reprisal of the evening-length work with its affiliate arts organization Saint Heron in 2017.

As an educator, Russo is a faculty member at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Russo holds a BFA in Dance and a BA in Anthropology from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and a MFA in Dance from Hollins University/American Dance Festival where she attended on fellowship. Outside of her own creative endeavors, she dances with The Metropolitan Opera.
