With an international opera career spanning over thirty years, and more than one hundred roles in his repertoire, Daniel Sumegi has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Covent Garden and the Paris Opera, as well as major companies across the United States, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.

Recent engagements include Der fliegende Holländer (Title role - Malmö), Salome (Israel), Carmen (Seattle), and Die Walküre Act 1 (MSO, Atlanta Symphony, Stuttgart Philharmonic). Other appearances include the world premiere of Manchurian Candidate (Minnesota, Austin), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Magic Flute, Pearl Fishers, Don CarloLuisa Miller (OA Sydney), Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk Rigoletto, Eugene Onegin (OA Melbourne), Der Ring des Nibelungen (OA, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Adelaide), Luisa Miller (San Francisco), Madama Butterfly (Metropolitan Opera, Seattle), Daland in Der fliegende Holländer (Seattle, Adelaide, Minnesota, OA), Rigoletto and Billy Budd (Los Angeles), Salome (Hamburg, Washington, Hong Kong, Leeds, OA) and Götterdämmerung (Strasbourg, Cologne, Tokyo).

Past highlights include Barber of Seville (Glimmerglass, Seattle, Welsh National, OA), Der Rosenkavalier (Scottish, Welsh and Melbourne Opera), Bloch’s Macbeth (Frankfurt), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Parsifal (Hamburg), Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 (Madrid, Birmingham, Sydney, Melbourne), Tannhaüser, Don Giovanni, Nabucco (OA), Tosca, Carmen, Don Carlo (Welsh National), and Aida (Seattle, Tokyo, San Francisco, Montreal, Houston, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth).

A Green Room Award winner and Helpmann Award nominee, Mr. Sumegi was a winner of the 1987 Melbourne Sun Aria, 1989 McDonald’s Aria, 1994 Metropolitan Opera Contest and Placido Domingo’s 1995 Operalia. He has worked under noted conductors such as Sir Andrew Davis, Placido Domingo, Charles Dutoit, Asher Fisch, Valery Gergiev, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Simon Rattle, Carlo Rizzi, Donnald Runnicles, Nello Santi, Sir Jeffrey Tate, Edo de Waart, Sebastian Weigle and Simone Young.

Daniel Sumegi appears on CD in Beatrice di Tenda and Seattle Opera’s acclaimed Ring Cycle, and on DVD in San Francisco Opera’s Capriccio, OA’s Don Giovanni, and the historic condensed Ring Cycle from Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires.
