Conductor and pianist Dan Ettinger made his Royal Opera debut in 2010 conducting Rigoletto and has since returned to conduct La traviata, La bohème, Turandot and Tosca. In the 2018/19 Season he conducts Faust.
Ettinger had a ten-year career as a lyric baritone before beginning his international conducting career as Kapellmeister and assistant to Daniel Barenboim at Berlin State Opera (2003–9). Since then he has appeared regularly as a guest artist for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, The Royal Opera, Paris Opéra, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, the New National Theatre, Tokyo, and major opera companies in Washington, Los Angeles, Zürich and Trieste. He has also appeared regularly at Salzburg Festival. He is currently General Music Director of the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra and the city of Stuttgart in Germany, as well as Music Director of the Israeli Opera and the Israel Symphony Orchestra. He was previously Music Director of Mannheim’s National Theatre (2009–16) and Chief Conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra (2010–15).
His recordings include several live concerts with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (Tower Records), opera albums with Diana Damrau and Adrianne Pieczonka, a DVD of Der Ring des Nibelungen (Mannheim, directed by Achim Freyer), a DVD of Le nozze di Figaro from Salzburg Festival, and a recent CD of Mozart symphonies and Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos with the Stuttgart Philharmonic.
