About

The name of Costanzo Porta, a great 16th-century polyphonic player from the 16th century, was certainly not a random choice: since the dawn, the then young director Antonio Greco had a clear intention to register his research in the wake of the polyphonic tradition of the city of Cremona.

The basis of this musical project is the choir, which was born in 1993.
The singers are offered an intense path of individual growth, which offers them new insights on vocal technique, on the management of the score and historical-philological knowledge related to the performance practice of the repertoire. The choir tests are therefore a moment of collective musical research; this is made possible also by the fact that the group, although involving musicians from all over Italy, is born and remains rooted in the territory, being the components mostly coming from the Cremona area.

A training center for choir artists is thus created, a professional figure present in the European panorama, but absent in the Italian one outside the lyric sector: a figure with specific technical and cultural skills, able to face the choral activity of the mold professional also in the baroque repertoire, Mitteleuropean or contemporary romantic.

The prototype inspired by Costanzo Porta is the Renaissance musical chapel; for this reason, on the foundations of the choir other activities flourish, coherent with the model: the madrigal ensemble Costanzo Porta, the orchestra and the consort on original instruments Cremona Antiqua, the School of Music and Choral Singing for children, children and adults who today constitute the composite reality of the association.
