The Cantiga Choir of the Lluïsos de Gràcia was born in 1961.
It was founded by Leo Massó and, since the beginning, his prolific artistic activity has been complemented by the impetus he gave to the founding of the children's choir El Virolet (1966) and the young choir Coral Sinera (1968) In this way, the practice of choral singing at all ages and with the intention of continuing. More recently, this offer has been expanded with Vental del Norte and La Fuga choirs. The Cantiga Coral has been directed successively by the same Leo Massó, Oriol Ponsa, Edmon Colomer and - currently Josep Prats.
The artistic manifestations of Coral Cantiga, which won the first prize in the Mass Choir Contest of Sagunto (1969), have been outstanding and frequent throughout the country and in the rest of Europe.
Coral Cantiga has often collaborated with prestigious orchestras (Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona and Nacional de Catalunya, Hertfordshire Chamber Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Bournemouth Sinfonietta, Vallès Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Empordà, National Chamber Orchestra of "Andorra, Baroque Catalan Orchestra ...), has made numerous recordings for radio and television and has offered concerts at the first halls and in important festivals and seasons in Catalonia (Barcelona Music Festival, Serenates at the Gothic Quarter, Grec Festival, Week of Religious Music, Ancient Music Festival, Catalan Contemporary Music Show, "la Caixa" Foundation Season, Euroconcert, Ibercámara, Choir, Cobla and Dance at the Palau de la Música Catalana ...) and in other cities of the Spanish State (Santander, Vitoria, Valladolid, Segovia, Málaga, National Auditorium of Music of Madrid, Palace of Music of Valencia, Festival of Musician to Sacra de Cuenca, etc.). It is also worth mentioning its participation in different international festivals (Flanders, Loughborough, Autun and several Cantat Europe festivals, including Barcelona, in 2003).
The Cantiga Coral has been directed by renowned directors; among others, Pierre Cao, Laszlo Heltay, Oriol Martorell, Salvador Mas, Antoni Ros Marbà, Johan Duijck, Fernando Eldoro, Marcos Leite, Trevor Pinnock, Néstor Andrenacci and Salvador Brotons.
Its repertoire includes works from all periods and styles. Among his productions, it is worth mentioning poeticomusical spectacles, which combine choral and instrumental music, theater, poetry and even dance, in an always original and surprising format.
La Coral Cantiga is a member of the Catalan Federation of Coral Entities, the European Federation of Young Chorale-Europe Cantat and the International Federation for Choral Music.
