About
Christopher Ventris is one of Britain’s most successful tenor exports having long sustained his international reputation as one of the world’s finest interpreters of the Wagnerian roles of both Siegmund (Die Walküre) and Parsifal among others. Ventris appears regularly on the world’s most important stages in a wide-ranging repertoire including Peter Grimes, Max (Der Freischütz), Laca (Jenůfa), Prince Andrey Khovansky (Khovanshchina) and Jimmy Mahoney (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny) and has been immortalised on DVD as Parsifal from Opernhaus Zürich under Bernard Haitink, and on CD as Siegmund live from Wiener Staastoper under Christian Thielemann.
The current season is dominated by Ventris’ long-awaited first performances of Tristan und Isolde, in a new production for La Monnaie under Alain Altinoglu, as well as returns to Wiener Staatsoper as Siegmund under Axel Kober, and Max under Sebastian Weigle.
