Christiane Zaunmair studied music-theatre directing at the University for music and performing arts in Vienna and graduated with distinction. In addition, she graduated in theatre, Film and media studies. She was a 2008 fellow of the Mannheim Mozart summer, and in 2010 a scholarship holder of the Richard-Wagner-Stiftung Bayreuth. In the 2011/12 season, she was honored by the Austrian cultural radio station oe1 to oe1-talent exchange in the category "stage".
Already during her studies she has been at numerous opera houses and Festivals such as the Vienna State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Teatro dell'opera di Roma, the festival Oper Klosterneuburg and the Landestheater Linz.
After her studies she worked as an assistant director and evening director at the young opera of the Staatstheater Stuttgart, then at the theater Magdeburg and later at the Staatstheater Mainz. She received important artistic impetus especially in collaboration with directors such as Stephen Lawless, Stephen Langridge and Elisabeth Stöppler. A special artistic collaboration connects her with Dieter Dorn, who assisted her in 2013 and 2014 at the Grand Théâtre de Genève at Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. Since the 2015/16 season, she has worked as a freelance director and director of re-recordings. His own directing work includes Monteverdi's "Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda", Handel's" Susanna "and Beethoven's"Fidelio".
