Sound designer Chris Ekers made his Royal Ballet debut in 2008 on Wayne McGregor’s Infra and has since returned to work on McGregor’s Woolf Works.
Ekers trained as a musician. He began his career as a sound designer in 1981 with theatre sound rental company Autograph Sound Recording. During this time he was involved in many West End musical productions, including Song and Dance, Starlight Express and Chess. Since 1987 he has worked as a freelance sound engineer and designer with composers and ensembles and with dance, theatre and opera companies, including with Gavin Bryars, Jan Garbarek, Max Richter and the Hilliard Ensemble. In addition to works for The Royal Ballet, Ekers’s collaborations with Richter include touring with his ensemble in the UK and internationally, and the world premiere of the eight-hour Sleep in Kraftwerk, Berlin.
Ekers is Head of Sound for the annual Fès Festival of Sacred World Music in Morocco. Previous positions include Head of Sound for Assembly Theatre at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Senior Production Manager for Audio, Broadcast Audio and Communications for London 2012 Ceremonies Ltd.
