Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra, recognised as one of the finest youth orchestras in the world, presents an exhilarating programme for its first ever concert in the brand new Milton Court Concert Hall, on Friday 24 October.
Directed by award-winning British conductor Paul Mann and led by Chetham’s student Elizaveta Saul from Belarus (winner of Chetham’s 2013 Concerto Competition), the Orchestra will perform master works by two Russian giants: Tchaikovsky’s masterful Pathétique Symphony No. 6 and Prokofiev’s virtuosic and lyrical Second Violin Concerto. The dramatic atmosphere of these works will be complemented by the gritty and powerful Symphonic Suite taken from Bernstein’s score to the 1954 film On the Waterfront – a ‘must’ for all Marlon Brando’s fans.
With an outstanding international reputation, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra is formed of students from Manchester’s Chetham’s School of Music, aged 14-18. The quality of their performances is often compared to that of the professional ensembles. They have worked with a number of international conductors including Yan Pascal Tortelier, Paul McCreesh, Jac Van Steen and Sir Mark Elder.
