Cesare Lievi (Gargnano, 1952) is an Italian theater director, poet and playwright.
 

He was part of the editorial staff of the poetry magazine Niebo, directed by Milo De Angelis and translated poems from the German (an activity that he still practices). With his brother Daniele, set designer, he founded the "Teatro dell'Acqua" in his hometown in the early 1980s. Among the performances of that period, the show based on Bluebeard by Georg Trakl, which was presented at the Venice Biennale in 1984, was particularly successful. The following year he presented Hugo von Hofmannsthal's Falun Mine in Frankfurt, followed in several years in Austria and Germany by Christina Hofmannsthal's (1987), August Strindberg's Ghost Sonata (1988). ), The new tenant by Eugène Ionesco (1988), Käthchen von Heilbronn by Heinrich von Kleist (1988), Enrico IV by Luigi Pirandello (1989), Time and the room by Botho Strauß (1990), The constant prince of Calderón de la Barca (2001), They were all my sons by Arthur Miller (2002). In 2009 he won the Ubu Award for best drama with La badante.

He was appointed Superintendent and Artistic Director for the Prose of the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine for the years 2010 and 2011.
