Catherine CANTIN belongs to the lineage that honors the great French flute school. She enters very young at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris where she won a first flute prize in the class Jean-Pierre Rampal and Alain Marion.

Since the age of 19, she has been 1st Flute super soloist with the Orchester de l'Opéra National de Paris and leads at the same time, an important career of soloist and chamber musician in Europe, the United States, Japan,
Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, Soviet Union, Japan (with the New-Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, N.H.K. Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Seiji Ozawa). She is invited to the Saito Festival Kinnen under the direction of Seiji Ozawa. She teaches to a senior class of flute at the Normal School of Paris music Alfred Cortot, and gives many masterclasses and concerts in many countries. She is a member of the jury at the international Jean Pierre Rampal competition. His repertoire ranges from baroque music to contemporary music. Catherine CANTIN records the Mozart Concertos with the Orchester de l'Opéra de Paris under the direction Georges Prêtre, and Mozart's operas with Maurice Bourgue Wind Ensemble. At Decca International, she recorded a CD of Chamber Music (Françaix, Roussel, Tansman, Milhaud ...) with Pascal Rogé (piano) Maurice Bourgue (oboe) Michel Portal (clarinet) André Cazalet (Cor) Amaury Wallez (fagott). In the United States, she is nominated by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences for the best Instrumental Performance Grammy Awards 1995 "Concert Four" Olivier Messiaen which she is the dedicatee with M. Rostropovitch, H. Holliger, Y. Loriod and M.W. Chung. The first audition will be given on September 26, 1994 at the Paris Opera and the work recorded for the Deutsche Grammophon with all the dedicatees. She created the concerto for flute, alto flute and piccolo by Frédéric van Rossum in Antwerp and Ghent (Flanders Country Orchestra) Catherine Cantin plays a 19.5 carat gold flute from the Powell House.
In July 2015, she is appointed by the Minister of Culture Fleur Pellerin, Knight of Arts and Letters.
