Catharina Lühr, born in Hamburg, was trained at the Conservatory of her home town to graduate Rhythmikerin. She also studied contemporary dance and choreography at the Centre International de la Danse in Paris. She then worked as a freelance dancer in Hamburg and Paris.
Since the 1990s, Catharina Lühr has been a freelance choreographer and has worked at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Bayreuth, Salzburg Festival, Milan's Scala, Zurich Opera House, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Styriarte in Graz, Amsterdam opera, Vienna theater, Madrid, Tübingen and Stendal theatres, Würzburg and Berlin. She worked with renowned Directors such as Jürgen Flimm, Andrea Breth, Christoph Marthaler, Katharina Thalbach, Markus Dietze, Simone Sterr, Werner Schroeter, and Ralf Siebelt, as well as conductors Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim.
Catharina Lühr has been a lecturer at the Hamburg University of music and theatre since 2008. She has repeatedly worked for the Young Singers Project of the Salzburg Festival. She pays special attention to the training of singers, for whom she has developed a special, singing-optimizing movement theory.
