The Hanover Federal Police Orchestra (formerly BGS-Orchster Hanover) was brought into being in 1951 with the establishment of the Federal Border Police and belonged to the then Federal Border Police Command North. Under their first boss, the music master Martin Kothe, around 30 mostly full-time musicians performed at official ceremonies and charity concerts to represent the young authority in public. Other heads of the music corps were Hermann Lamprecht, Max Riechers, Horst Bode, Rüdiger Hofmann and, since November 1999, the current director, Matthias Höfert.
The concert under the flood bridge will be conducted by Anna Sophie Brüning.
In the current season she works with the Stegreif Orchester Berlin (including a Don Giovanni production in cooperation with the Neuköllner Oper and the Radialsystem Berlin), with the NDR Hannover, the Orchestra of the Federal Police, the Ghetto Classics and the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya .
There have been four BGS music corps since reunification: Berlin, Hanover, Munich and Kassel. Due to the implementation of the BGS reform, the Kassel Music Corps was dissolved in 1998. Several musicians from Kassel took the opportunity to move to Hanover, so that the BGS orchestra from Hanover today consists of 45 musicians. By decree of August 7, 2002, the BGS Music Corps North was renamed "BGS Orchestra Hanover".
Due to the law passed in the German Bundestag on April 21, 2005, the Federal Border Guard was renamed the Federal Police on July 1, 2005. Thus, the name of the BGS Orchestra Hanover changed to the Federal Police Orchestra Hanover.
