About

Bruno Delepelaire (born 1989) is a French cello player, a member of the Berlin Philharmonic since 2013.

Born in 1989, thanks to his grandmother, an amateur cellist, he began to learn the cello play at Erwan Fauré from the age of 5. Schola Cantorum graduated with honors in Paris in 2008. From the following year he studied at the Paris Conservatory at Philippe Muller. In 2012, he went to Berlin and began studying with Jens-Peter Maintz at the University of art and Ludwig Quandt at the orchestral Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. He also attended the master classes of Wolfgang-Emanuel Schmidt, François Salque, Wen-Sinn Yang and Wolfgang Boettcher.

Orchestral experience racked up performing with the Verbier Festival Orchestra, European Union Youth Orchestra or the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. In September 2013 he was appointed 1. solo cellist of the Berlin philharmonic and a few months later, he played with the orchestra of Don Quixote under the direction of Semyon Bychkov.

He also performed regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles, e.g. with Cavatine Quartet or Berlin Piano Quartet. From November 2013 he also became a member of Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker. With the Berlin Piano Quartet in 2016, he recorded songs by Fauré, Schnittke and Brahms.
