It has been worryingly quiet for the broilers last year. But how do you say: if the children do not answer, they are fine.
In search of distraction, delirium and intoxication, the five found a temporary home in the Apulia region - idleness and the sweet life in a small coastal town.
Light activities and preparation for big plans filled the days under the olive trees. A wake-up call came under the sun itself, the band took their hands out of their pockets - emptied what was left to empty and set off for their old home.

As these lines are being written, the Broilers are celebrating 25 years of band history, creating their own gin and writing a massive new hit album. The band is ready again and just outside the gates of your city to make 2020 their most intense so far. With eight of their own open airs and exclusive German festival appearances at the twin festivals Rock am Ring / Rock im Park, the Broilers will be back at the start and on the everything that their fans and especially the musicians themselves have missed during the two-year break Bring the stage.
The broilers believe that now is the time to move on - many feel similar.
Where the Broilers are is at the front: their last album "(sic!)", Released in 2017, climbed to number one in the charts, as did the previous longplay release "Noir". Both discs achieved gold status within a very short time. The subsequent tour developed into a true triumph: with hundreds of thousands of fans at countless sold-out concerts, the Broilers celebrated the biggest tour in their band's history.
The Broilers are to Germany what Bruce Springsteen is to the USA: They describe what they see and they say what they mean. In her words and in her own way. May not please everyone, but can make many happy. You want to put your finger in the wound and can live with the fact that this is often considered “uncool” or “not trendy” when faced with a cross-section of supposed hipsters and concerned citizens. The same applies to their music: “authenticity” and “being with oneself” are the important terms for the band and of course pathos can also be part of it. This is exactly why they are dearly loved by their fans.
“With our music we want to show that we agree on how punk should sound to us, that certain things have to be addressed and that standing quietly on the edge is always the worst option,” describes Sammy Amara, singer, lyricist and composer of the Düsseldorf band the broilers' self-image. "Punk rock, ska, pop, singer / songwriter sounds: these are the elements that keep appearing in our sound".
The people of Düsseldorf have a lot to tell, from many different worlds. When they wanted to start a band in 1992, they were 12-year-old youngsters: drums and guitar, "The Clash", "Sex Pistols" and "Die Toten Hosen" as fuel and all more of a megalomaniac vision than a music group. With the first releases, they make a good, if never particularly beloved, name for themselves. “At that time we didn't even know the term“ broilers ”and when we got to know it, the child had already fallen into the well”, the band's internal multifunctional Amara later told “Die Zeit”. "But it's a long tradition of German punk bands to give themselves shitty names ..."
The band subsequently records albums with which they quickly break the narrow genre boundaries. The never forced, in the end logical step out of its own scene biotope manifests itself at the latest with the 2007 release “Vanitas”. The album presents the highest density of hits in the band's career to date, which is also causing a sensation outside of the underground for the first time.
In 2011 things really get going with “Santa Muerte” when you want to talk about a breakthrough after almost 20 years of band history. The album catapults the band to number 3 on the charts and out of the clubs into the halls. After many years of taking small steps, everything is now a little faster. “Santa Muerte” leads the Broilers on a nearly two-year tour and adds a new sound to their sound: Big melodies for big halls meet raw energy. The band's signature sound is a mixture of sweat and endorphins, of attitude and hope. More Springsteen, in questions of ethos, art and spirit - within the band for a long time and still an oversized reference. At the beginning of the decade, the Broilers arrived in a new dimension with their fifth studio album, they are the “most successful unknown band in Germany” without there having been a big bang.
The big bang comes with “Noir” and in 2014 things changed very quickly with the “unknown”. The album shoots to number 1 in the charts, the halls on the following tour are not only big, but also full to the brim, the interest in the band is huge and the Broilers are right at the front by now. That wasn't the goal, but anyone who makes music wants to be heard - especially when they have something to say. That was the case back then and it will remain so.
“(Sic!)” Is 2017 review, reflection and outlook at the same time. “The band has now completely swum free. Your own record company, your own sound. It doesn't matter how you do it anyway. So you can make it easy for yourself and just do what you want. That worked out well for over two decades, ”explains Amara.
“We have become very political over the years, even if that wasn't the plan. That scared people, but we accept that. ”Those who hide today are giving themselves away - and in the case of the Broilers even more. Many old and even more new fans thank the five musicians with great affection and huge enthusiasm:
