Boris Vadimovich Berezovsky is a Russian pianist.
Boris Berezovsky is one of the most sought-after pianists in the world. His art is distinguished by phenomenal virtuosity, perfect sound with a rich spectrum of dynamic shades, and convincing interpretations of works from a variety of eras and styles. The pianist was born in Moscow in 1969. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Eliso Virsaladze and privately with Alexander Satz. In 1987, the eighteen-year-old musician won the 4th prize at the Leeds Piano Competition (Great Britain). After a brilliant debut at London's Wigmore Hall in 1988, The Times newspaper described him as "an exceptionally promising artist." A striking confirmation of this was the Gold Medal at the IX International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, won by Berezovsky in 1990. The pianist regularly performs with the best orchestras, including the New York and Berlin Philharmonics, the Philadelphia Symphony, the London Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Residence Orchestra of The Hague and the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Radio Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France, the City of Birmingham and Sydney Symphony Orchestras, the Russian National Orchestra and the State Symphony Orchestra "Novaya Rossiya", the Moscow Chamber Orchestra Musica Viva, the Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and others. The musician's performances are conducted by Kurt Masur, Charles Dutoit, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Andrew Litton, Antonio Pappano, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alexander Lazarev, Mikhail Pletnev, Yuri Bashmet, Dmitry Kitaenko, Alexander Rudin, Dmitry Liss and many other famous conductors. In the field of chamber music, the pianist collaborated with such outstanding musicians as Brigitte Engerer, Vadim Repin, Dmitry Makhtin, Alexander Knyazev. Berezovsky gives solo concerts in such famous musical centers as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the London Royal Festival Hall, the Parisian Theatre des Champs Elysees, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels, the Megaron Hall in Athens, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, and the P. I. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. The pianist is a participant in major international music festivals in Russia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Japan, and the USA. On the initiative of Boris Berezovsky, the Medtner Festival has been held in Russia since 2006 (in 2006 and 2011 in Moscow, and in 2007 also in Yekaterinburg and Vladimir). Boris Berezovsky's extensive discography includes about 40 solo and ensemble CDs and DVDs recorded on such renowned labels as Teldec and Mirare/Harmonia Mundi. In collaboration with the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dmitry Liss, the pianist recorded all of Rachmaninoff's piano concertos. Boris Berezovsky's works have been repeatedly noted by experts from Le Monde de la Musique, Diapason, BBC Music Magazin, Independent on Sunday, and have been chosen by Le Monde de la Musique and Gramophone magazines, and have been awarded the following prizes: Diapason d'Or and RTL d'Or, Echo-Classic, CHOC, German Critics' Prize and the British BBC Music Magazine. Boris Berezovsky holds the title of Steinway Artist.
