The Bolshoi Theater Children's Choir as an independent collective has existed since 1920. The collective takes part in many theater productions: the opera The Queen of Spades, Eugene Onegin, Khovanshchina, Boris Godunov, Snegurochka, Carmen, Bohemia, Tosca, Turandot, Cavalier roses ”,“ Condemnation of Faust ”,“ Billy Budd ”,“ Wozzeck ”,“ Fiery angel ”,“ Child and magic ”,“ Everybody does this ”; The Nutcracker, Moydodyr, Ivan the Terrible ballets, etc.
Currently, the choir successfully combines theatrical performances with independent concert activity. The unique sound of the voices of the young artists of the Bolshoi Theater was heard in all the halls of the Moscow Conservatory, in the Concert Hall. P.I. Tchaikovsky, Moscow International House of Music, the State Kremlin Palace, the Hall of Church Cathedrals of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Central House of Artists, in the halls of museums. The team is constantly invited to participate in celebrations, government concerts and other cultural events (Day of Slavic Writing, Year of Culture in Russia, World Russian People’s Cathedral, etc.). Since 2018, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the Children's Choir takes part in the festive Christmas night service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
With great success, the choir at various times conducted tours in Germany, Italy, Estonia, Japan, South Korea and other countries.
Many concerts of the Children's Choir are attended by leading soloists of the Bolshoi Theater. The team collaborates with well-known Russian groups: the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra. P. I. Tchaikovsky, Russian National Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra “Russian Philharmonic”, State Academic Symphony Chapel of Russia, State Academic Choir named after A. A. Sveshnikov, State Academic Chapel them. A. A. Yurlova, National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Russia named after N.P. Osipova - and, of course, often performs with the Symphony Orchestra and the choir of the Bolshoi Theater.
The choir’s repertoire includes a varied concert program, which includes European Renaissance music, Russian and foreign classics, Orthodox and Catholic chants, as well as jazz and popular contemporary works.
The Bolshoi Theater Children's Choir has recorded several CDs.
Classes in the choir allow his students to enter higher musical educational institutions. Many of them become winners of vocalist competitions, many among former artists of the children's choir and leading soloists of opera houses, including soloists of the Bolshoi Theater.
The choir is led by Julia Molchanova. Born in Moscow. Since 1988, she has been an artist of the Bolshoi Theater Children's Choir. Graduated with honors from the school at the Moscow Conservatory, and then the Moscow Conservatory (class of Professor B.I. Kulikov). Since 2000, she is the choirmaster of the Bolshoi Theater, and since 2004 she has also led the Children's Choir of the theater. He takes part as a choirmaster of adult and children's choirs in all repertoire performances and concert activities of the choir collective. She worked as the main choirmaster in the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater, as well as with children's choirs in Finland, Japan, England, Slovenia, Sweden, etc. She performed as a conductor in the Bolshoi, Maly and Rachmaninov halls of the Moscow Conservatory, on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, hall Church cathedrals of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and other concert venues. She was awarded an honorary diploma of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, an honorary diploma of the Ministry of Education of the Moscow Region, an honorary diploma and a prize of the Board of Trustees of the theater.
