Bohemia Ballet is a dance ensemble of the Dance Conservatory of the Capital City of Prague, in which graduates and students of the school perform.
During its existence, the ensemble has developed into an ambitious ensemble of young dancers, often winners of international competitions. The performances of Bohemia Ballet are not only characterized by technical sophistication, but also bring to the stage the joy and enthusiasm of young dance performers. The dramaturgy is created with regard to the composition of the ensemble, enables the development of the artistic abilities of students - future dance professionals and at the same time enriches the repertoire offer on the Czech dance scene. During its existence, the ensemble has won several awards and created extraordinary projects in a professional context, performs on domestic and foreign stages, is invited to festivals and dance shows / Germany, France, Slovakia, Poland, USA, Japan, Colombia, Portugal, Cambodia. The scope of the repertoire is very wide, including examples of the classical ballet legacy / the famous pas de deux from the ballet Korzár, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty / and contemporary choreographic compositions and folk dances from Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia.
Successful performances include. Ravel's Bolero , designed for school students in 2003, artistic director of the National Theater Ballet in Prague, Petr Zuska and marked by professional critics as the best performance of the year, further productions Polovtsian Dances A. Borovina / Fokin, Slavický /, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker / Slavický / , Happy Seven to the music of Miloš Vacek / Stránský, Rychetský | / or Talking to Frida , a ballet based on a biographical film about the Mexican painter Frida Cahlo, created by Jan Kodet. In January 2005, the premiere of Tchaikovsky's ballet Sleeping Beauty took place on the stage of the Estates Theater in cooperation with the National Theater in Prague.in the choreography of Jaroslav Slavický, who met with great success with small and large audiences and was recorded by Czech Television. The performance of the Bohemia Ballet in Šípková Růženka was awarded the "For Extraordinary Collective Performance" prize in the Czech Dance Art Competition in 2005. The ensemble presented in the Czech premiere the famous Trojan Plays by the important European choreographer Robert North and also the Indigo Rose by the world-famous choreographer Jiří Kylián, together with Večerné písně , which he presents as the only ensemble in the Czech Republic. In the season 08/09, the ensemble 's repertoire was expanded to include Bohuslav Martinů's ballet Kuchyňská revue, The Wonderful Flight and the opera Tears of a Knife directed by Jiří Srnec, Janáček's Sinfonietta and Zeljenko's Music Slovacin the choreography of Pavel Šmok. The staging of the world-famous Svita in white by the French choreographer Serge Lifar, presented by the ensemble in the Czech premiere and awarded in the Competition Festival of Dance Art of the Czech Republic in 2008 with an Honorable Mention for dramaturgical contribution, is unique .
At present, Bohemia Ballet continues its successful collaboration with Jiří Kylián, a former graduate of the school. In June 2009, the songs of the wandering companion Gustav Mahler were premiered in the Czech premiere . In December 2009, the ensemble, in collaboration with Kasai dancing Company and Bungeiza Theater from the Japanese Toyama, will present the ballet Little Girl with Matches based on fairy tales by H.Ch. Andersen. Based on the financial support of the City of Prague, Bohemia Ballet partially professionalized its activities in the 2009/10 season and is preparing in this context cooperation with young Czech choreographers and expansion of artistic activities. A project with the Royal Danish Ballet is also being prepared for the performance of the A. Bournonville Konservatoriet ballet in its Czech premiere in 2010.
Success of members of the Bohemia Ballet - the ensemble of the Dance Conservatory of the Capital City of Prague at the 1st International Competition in Classical, Neoclassical and Modern Dance in Olomouc.
At the 1st International Competition in Classical, Neoclassical and Modern Dance Grand Prix Award, held as part of the International Ballet Festival on 23-25 October 2009 at the Moravian Theater in Olomouc, they won the 1st prize - Grand Prix - members of Bohemia Ballet Lucie Rákosníková and Michal The innkeeper. The expert jury led by Vlastimil Harapes and the audience were convinced of their qualities in the pas de deux from the ballet Le Corsaire and the duet from the Songs of the Wandering Companion by G. Mahler, choreographed by Jiří Kylián.
Since its founding in the year of 1945, an extracurricular nevertheless integral part of the school's function, are public performances, in which the school showcases its students and presents results of their work. Of greatest importance amongst these shows is the graduation performance. While being part of the final examination, the graduation concerts are also a display of the conservatories professionalism and high level of standard. They are dramaturgically planed to reflect the entire range of the schools education. Including fragments of classical ballets, modern dance works as well as folk and character dances, the conservatory also presents entire feature length authentic and original ballets which aren't so often found in repertoires of other companies.Mali čkosti choreographed by Zora Šemberová, Krysař by Pavel Bořkovec choreographed by Lauretta Hrdinová and Lašské Tance composed by Leoš Janáček in the choreography of Zora Šemberová. It would be impossible to mention every single piece performed in graduation performances since, we may however remind ourselves of some other choreographies by Zora Šemberová like Tmavomodrý svět (J.Ježek), V mlhách (L.Janáček) made for Jiří Kylián and Lucie Novotná , Kuchyňská revue (B. Martinů), Svatebčané na Eifelovce (Věra Urbánková), Sinfonietta (L.Janáček) and Rapsody in blue(Gerschwin) to state a few. Mirka Vlášková also created a great number of very succesful works for the school. Amongst them are a renewel of Krysař of P. Bořkovec, V mlhách of L. Janáček, Fantastic symphony of Berlioz. For the brothers L. And M. Hajnovi she created the ballet The Picture of Dorian Gray to the music of Bela Bártok and Dvořák's Vodník. Of the more recent works created for the conservatory we ought to mention Pictures from the exhibition by Mussorgský choreographed by Taťana Krištůfková or Parlez-moi d´amour of M. Benoni, Symfonický triptychComposed by Jindra Nečasová inspired by S. Dali's paintings and choreographed by Y. Hubičková, what do you think would Petr Zuska, the old woman and the death and one breath of Alena Drápalíková, heat of the body of Claud Paul Henry and Bara Krýslová-Grenier's Pissputt . During the 2004-2005 school year, 60 years since the conservatory's founding, the repertoire was enriched with Jiří Kylián's Večerní písně and Indigo Rose and Robert Northon's Trojsk é hry. Along side these integral works, tens of other contemporary dance miniatures were being created. In these works D.Wiesner, R.Balogh, L.Vaculík, P.Zuska, N.Nikolov, R.Hilbert, R.Letenaj, J.Kekeňáková could exhibit their choreographic talents. Through international collaboration the students even got the opportunity to study and perform Jiří Kylián's Nuages , K. Mac Millan's A lot of Happiness and J. Alegado's Dime . The choregraphies Kdysi ... , Haar and Ecstasy by students David Stránský and Tomáš Rychetský, created for their very own classmates, were also met with great success.
The students are thought various dance techniques on a high level of standard. Equipped with this overall high artistic level, the school is then able to present difficult dance pieces or entire full - length ballets in the actual original choreography. Up to roughly the mid 80s the conservatory presented the Grand pas from the ballet Paquita , a fragment from the ballet Cindirella , Grand pas de quatre from C. Pugnini, the second act from the ballet Swan Lake , Shadows and divertissment from the first act of the ballet Bajader , a fragment from the ballet Sleeping Beauty , Grand pas from the balletRaymonda and IP Čajkovský's Serenad for string instruments in the choreography of G. Balanchine to mention a few.
The exceptional cooperation between the school and the National Theater of Prague, which lasts already more than 15 years, gives students the possibility to acquire irreplaceable experiences from stage through performances from the repertoire of the Ballet of the National Theater, as well as through performing in the school's productions which tend to be eventually enlisted in the repertoire of the Theater's ballet company. In any of these productions the students have to demonstrate technical readiness and create expressive characters of various roles. Such productions include The Nutcracker of PI Tchaikovsky (1993-95) choreographed by Slavický, Ples kadetů (1993) - Strauss / Psota, Vain Caution (1994,98,2000) - Hertel / Alonso, Pulcinella(1994) - Stravinsky / Milenko, Peter and the Wolf (1998) - Prokofiev / Serjozhnikov, Figaro! It was this vast repertoire and the multitudinousness of performances at local and foreign theaters which in the year of 2004 led the school's management to found the Bohemia Balet - the dance company of the conservatory of Prague, maintained by the Association of dance for the dance conservatory of Prague. The company first performed under this appellation on the 6 th of May 2005 in the City Theater at Karlovy Vary. Since then, through its performances, the company has gained reputation and appreciation from the public as well as experts. In the dance competition of Czech Republic in the year of 2005, the company won a price for Remarkable Collective Workdemonstrated in the ballet Sleeping Beauty. The production was aired on Czech Television. Three years later the company received an Honorable Mentionfor dramaturgical contribution brought to czech dance in the czech premiere of the world-acclaimed ballet Suite en blanc - Lalo / Lifar. Along with the Association of dance further financial aid for the Bohemia Balet comes in the form of grants from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Prague Council. In September of 2009, the aid from the Prague Council facilitated the possibility to partially professionalize the company and broaden its artistic function. Tereza Chábová, Lucie Rákosníková, Libor Kettner and Michal Krčmář - four graduates of the conservatory - were the company first actual employed professional dancers. From the season of 2010/2011 Lucie Rákosníková, Libor Kettner and Michal Krčmář are conducted as regular guest dancers and the conservatory's graduates Tereza Chábová, Sandra Danielová and Štěpán Pechar as the company's actual members. Productions of Bohemia Ballet are very often danced by not only the actual company members however by quite a large number of students, who have not yet finished their education at the conservatory.
