Shahar Binyamini is a choreographer and performer from Israel. He danced with Batsheva Dance Company from 2006 to 2013 in works by Sharon Eyal and Ohad Naharin, notably Hora, Sadeh 21, The Hole and Decadance by Ohad Naharin.
Whilst at Batsheva Dance Company he expanded his dance practice as a Gaga movement language teacher leading Gaga Intensive courses in Israel, Italy, USA and Japan teaching dancers and curious movers from all walks of life.
A choreographic practice deeply rooted in the work developed over the years with Ohad Naharin and Batsheva Dance Company underscores Shahar Binyamini’s performance work. Binyamini also works as a choreographic assistant to Ohad Naharin, teaching and staging his performances in dance companies around the world, including Paris Opera Ballet, Ballet BC (Vancouver), Nederlands Dans Theater, Compañía Nacional de Danza and Finish National Opera.
In 2016, Binyamini debuted his choreographic work in Singapore with FLAT for Frontier Danceland, ‘a visceral movement journey of outstanding intelligent ensemble work’ followed by YAMA with Mukogawa Dance Company in Japan and LUNGS for UCLA in the USA. In the following year, Binyamini created Empty 3 for Ate9 Dance Company in L.A. and later on developed it with Gauthier Dance in Germany. With Saarländische Staatstheater in Germany, he created MENSCH and PARADISO for Frontier Danceland. 2019 has been a particularly busy year for Binyamini, teaching Gaga Intensives in Israel and Italy and sharing a double bill – BALLROOM with Ohad Naharin and Festspielhaus St. Pölten in Austria as well as creating I Am for Opera National du Rhin. 2019 sees the inception of Wet Ostrich, an intensive workshop for dancers.
