Bettina Auer studied music theater directing with Götz Friedrich as well as musicology and German studies.
In addition to engagements as dramaturge at the theaters in Bern, Darmstadt, Basel and at the Komische Oper Berlin, she has also conceptualized numerous world premieres in drama and dance. She has performed at the Salzburg Festival, at the Zurich Opera House, at the Vienna Burgtheater, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, at the Lucerne Festival and at the Schauspiel Köln. Since 2012 she works freelance, u. a. as a production dramaturg with directors such as Barrie Kosky and Calixto Bieito at the De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, at the Teatro del Canal in Madrid, at the Norske Opera Oslo and the Vienna State Opera.
