Rainer Roos is the orchestra's chief conductor and artistic director; the production notes state that he has led the ensemble on 25 tours of China. The orchestra's history is traced to a Viennese ensemble founded in 1827 and disbanded in New York in 1901 after a North American tour. Viennese musicians revived the tradition in 1977. Since then, the orchestra has given more than 3,000 performances internationally and toured Europe, Asia and the Americas. Its red historical uniforms and focus on the Viennese waltz tradition are identifying features of its stage presentation. The concert is expected to last approximately 110 minutes, although the actual running time may vary. No detailed programme is provided in the source.
