Overview

Shengmi Orchestra presents Vienna Strauss Night, its 2027 New Year concert – 18 Strauss family favourites, from Voices of Spring and The Blue Danube to the Radetzky March.

The orchestra plays under conductor Liu Wendong, with violinist Li Xin as guest concertmaster.

The programme is pure Strauss: the grand Emperor Waltz, fragrant Roses from the South and sparkling Voices of Spring; a string of playful polkas – Thunder and Lightning with its timpani and cymbals, the Pizzicato Polka played entirely by plucking the strings; exotic Egyptian and Persian marches; The Blue Danube; and, to finish, the Radetzky March, when the audience claps along just as in Vienna.
