Overview

Vienna Royal Symphony Orchestra presents its 2027 New Year Concert conducted by Dariusz Mikulski – a festive programme that sweeps from Mozart and Offenbach to Carmen, Swan Lake and Strauss’s Voices of Spring.

Dariusz Mikulski is a conductor and horn player and a professor at the Academy of Music in Łódź. He has conducted at the Grand Theatre in Poznań and at Wrocław Opera, ran the Sudecka Philharmonic as general and artistic director from 2005 to 2010, and in 2008 received Poland’s Gloria Artis medal – as one of its youngest recipients. He is joined by mezzo-soprano Aleksandra Gudzio.

It is a lively, varied New Year evening: favourite arias from The Marriage of Figaro, The Merry Widow and Carmen, Saint-Saëns’s dazzling showpiece for violin and orchestra, sparkling overtures, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake waltz and Voices of Spring – opened and closed by two Chinese favourites. For a fuller, more brilliant sound the orchestra plays with double woodwind.
