Overview

Wiener K & K Symphonieorchester (Vienna K&K Symphony Orchestra) presents its 2027 New Year Concert – Beethoven’s Seventh, The Butterfly Lovers and The Blue Danube in one festive programme, with a surprise promised for the encore.

The orchestra describes itself as an ensemble of Austrian and other European musicians whose repertoire runs from Baroque oratorio and Classical and Romantic symphonies to the Strauss family’s Viennese waltzes – and this programme has a little of everything.

The first half belongs to Beethoven’s exuberant Symphony No. 7 and the Chinese classic My Motherland. The second opens with The Butterfly Lovers, the violin concerto that sets the melodies of Chinese opera in a Western concerto, then turns Viennese: the overture to Die Fledermaus, dances by Dvořák and Brahms, Bottesini’s Tarantella with the double bass in the spotlight, a Strauss polka and, to crown the evening, The Blue Danube.
