About
Béatrice Uria-Monzon has been, and remains, one of the greatest performers of Carmen of our times. She has played Bizet’s heroine on the stages of many of the world’s great theatres (including Paris, Berlin, Toulouse, New York, Munich, Madrid, Zurich, Barcelona as well as the Chorégies d’Orange Festival…), However, her career is not limited to that role alone, even if it has been an important one in her professional development. Indeed, she has performed many of the key roles in the French repertoire: Mother Marie of the Incarnation (Dialogues des Carmélites), Hérodiade (Massenet), Charlotte (Werther) and, in particular, Berlioz’s heroines: Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust), Béatrice (Béatrice et Bénédict), and Didon (Les Troyens), a role she played in Berlin and at the Marseille Opera alongside Roberto Alagna. Béatrice Uria -Monzon has also played a host of other roles including Leonora (La Favorite) in Montpellier, Bordeaux and Liège, Eboli (Don Carlo) in Houston, the Berlin Staatsoper, London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Vienna Staatsoper, Amneris (Aida) in Marseille, Adalgisa (Norma) in Monte Carlo and Lausanne, and Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana) at the Chorégies d’Orange, Marseille and Zurich.
She sang the title role in Tosca for the first time at the Avignon Opera. In addition, she has played Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle) and Ghita (Der Zwerg) at the Paris Opera, Venus (Tannhäuser) at the Paris Opera, the Rome Opera, Barcelona’s Liceu and the Rhine Opera, Eboli (Don Carlo) at London’s Covent Garden, the title role in Cléopâtre (Massenet), Didon and Cassandre (Les Troyens), Margared (Le Roi d’Ys), Chimène (Le Cid) and Laura (La Gioconda) at the Marseille Opera, the Great Vestal (Spontini’s La Vestale) at the Théâtre des Champs -Élysées, Léonor (La Favorite) at the Monte Carlo Opera and the Théâtre des Champs Élysées, Didon (Les Troyens) and the title role in Tosca at the Berlin Staatsoper, the Paris Opera and Milan’s La Scala.
She also sang the role of Didon in a concert version of Les Troyens at the Grand Theatre in Geneva as well as Eboli at both the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Vienna Staatsoper. In addition, she performed in the Bastille Day concert on the Champ de Mars in Paris. This season, she will be taking on the role of Lady Macbeth (Macbeth) for the first time at the Théâtre de La Monnaie in Brussels and then singing excerpts from it in concert with the Hallé Orchestra of Manchester. She will also be appearing as Fenena in Nabucco in Monte-Carlo and Eboli at Milan’s La Scala.
