About

The stage designer Aurélie Maestre first studied sculpture at the Université de Provence and then scenography at the ENSAD (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) in Paris. As a stage designer assistant at the Festival d'Art Lyrique d 'Aix-en-Provence she worked among others. together with the stage designers Peter Pabst, Richard Peduzzi and Saburo Teshigawara.

Other assistants in France, Spain and Italy followed. Aurélie Maestre created her first stage design in 2001 for Chekhov's The Seagull, directed by Philippe Calvario. Since then, she has worked as a freelance stage designer and has already produced a large number of productions, including Bernard-Marie Koltè's "Roberto Zucco", directed by Philippe Calvario at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord and at the Drama Theater in Ljubljana. She also designed sets for Shakespeare's "Macbeth" (directed by Arny Berry) at the Théâtre13 in Paris, "Voyage en Uruguay" by Clément Hervieu-Léger, directed by Daniel San Pedro, and the Compagnie des petits champs at CNCDC (Center National de Création et de Diffusion Culturelles) de Chateauvallon, Molière's «Monsieur de Pourceaugnac», directed by Clément Hervieu-Léger at the Bouffes du Nord and «Pays lointain» by Jean-Luc Lagarce at the Théâtre National de Strasbourg, again directed by Clément Hervieu-Léger , She has a longstanding relationship with director Vincent Huguet. She designed the sets for his productions of "Les Voyages de Don Quixote" (Ravel / Strauss / de Falla / Massenet) 2016 and 2017 "La vie parisienne" (Offenbach) at the Opéra de Bordeaux, "Les histoires sacrées" (Charpentier) with Ensemble Correspondances by Sébastien Daucet at the Théâtre de Caen and the Château de Versailles, Massenet's "Werther" at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, and in the summer of 2018 Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. Future projects include "The Woman Without a Shadow" (R. Strauss) with Vincent Huguet at the Vienna State Opera and Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" at the Opéra de Bordeaux. At the Lucerne Theater Aurélie Maestre is responsible for the stage design of Gounod's "Roméo et Juliette" in the production of Vincent Huguet in the 18/19 season.
