Dutch conductor Arnaud Oosterbaan drew national attention by receiving the 2010 Anton Kersjes scholarship for young conductors at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
In 2012, he made his debut with the Dutch National Touring Opera conducting Le Nozze di Figaro, followed by many concerts with various orchestras and companies such as the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, South Netherlands Philharmonic, North Netherlands Orchestra and Opera Zuid.
Arnaud Oosterbaan was appointed Assistant in residence at the National Touring Opera in the Netherlands (2010–2013) and conducted there Don Pasquale, L'Heure Espangnole, La voix humaine, St. Johns Passion (staging, 2011), Platée, La Traviata, Le Nozze di Figaro, Lucia di Lammermoor, Götterdämmerung, and Tristan und Isolde. He also assisted production of Die Zauberflöte, staged by Simon McBurney at the National Opera in Amsterdam and La Traviata at l’Opéra de Rennes. As a conductor, he has worked with renowned artists like Maria Ewing, Brindly Sherrot, Dale Duesing, Laurence Dale, and Chen Reis among others.
Born in Wolvega, the Netherlands, Arnaud Oosterbaan studied at Prince Claus Conservatoire Groningen, Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Prof. Alex Schillings), and Fontys Conservatorium Tilburg with professors Antony Hermus and Louis Buskens. During his studies, he has done internships with Atelier Lyrique (Opéra Bastille Paris), Hagen Philharmonic, The Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, and the Brabant Choir. Later on he attended international master classes with Neeme Jaärvi, Karl St. Clair, Benjamin Zander and Alexander Polishuk.
Dedicated to the promotion of classical music to the young audience, Arnaud Oosterbaan collaborates in educational projects like Carmina Burana (Parsifal College Groningen, 2014) with over 250 high-school students involved, La Bohème (2012), which featured talented young singers of a Residents Artists Programme, and the newly composed orchestra for City Proms Leeuwarden. Currently he is member of the artistic staff at the LEAD academy for conductors.
Upcoming engagements include a national tour with a new production of Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte at the Netherlands Touring Opera, with the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra in the pit
