The Apollon Musagète Quartet (abbreviated: AMQ) is a Polish string quartet that was founded in Vienna in 2006 and became internationally known in 2008, when it won the ARD music competition in the string quartet category. The ensemble plays the common quartet literature by Johann Sebastian Bach into the modern age, with special consideration of Polish music.
The ensemble debuted in the Wiener Musikverein (2009), in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic (2010), in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (2011) and in the New York Carnegie Hall (2012).
The quartet performs regularly in prominent chamber music cycles around the world, also playing in extended chamber music formations and the like. a. with Gabriela Montero, Martin Fröst, Joerg Widmann, Angelika Kirchschlager, Alexander Lonquich. In addition, the ensemble has collaborated with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Heidelberg Philharmonic, the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum and other ensembles in the performance of works for string quartet and orchestra.
In the crossover area, the ensemble worked intensively with Tori Amos, who invited the quartet in 2011 to participate in their published at Deutsche Grammophon album Night of Hunters and the subsequent European and American concert tour.
