About
American mezzo-soprano Angela Brower made her Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Dorabella (Così fan tutte).
Brower was raised in Arizona and studied at Arizona State University and Indiana University, and trained on the Glimmerglass Festival Young Artists Program. She went on to join the Junges Ensemble of Bavarian State Opera before joining the main company, and in 2009 won the Munich Festival Prize for her performances of Dorabella. Opera engagements elsewhere include Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Annio and Sesto (La clemenza di Tito), the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos), Charlotte (Werther) and Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) for Bavarian State Opera, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Vienna State Opera, Nicklausse and Cherubino for San Francisco Opera, Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) in Klagenfurt, Siébel (Faust) at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and Dorabella for Salzburg Festival.
Brower’s concert engagements include Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder with the NDR Symphony Orchestra and Chausson’s Poème de l’amour et de la mer and Ravel’s Shérézade with Yan Pascal Tortelier. Her discography includes acclaimed recordings of Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro with Yannick Nézet-Séguin for Deutsche Grammophon.
