Andrew Jones is one of Australia’s most outstanding baritones. After completing three years at the Victorian College of the Arts, he has built up an impressive list of credits with Australia’s major performing organisations.
His many leading roles for Opera Australia have included the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Marcello in La Bohème (Helpmann Award nomination), Escamillo in Carmen, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Zurga in The Pearl Fishers, Ford in Falstaff and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte.
Andrew’s other roles for the national company have included Jake Wallace and José Castro in La fanciulla del West, Alessio in La sonnambula, Marquis Dobigny in La Traviata, Maxamillion in Candide, Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, Mr Redburn in Billy Budd, Second Prisoner in Fidelio, Boatswain in HMS Pinafore, Slim in Of Mice and Men, Masetto in Don Giovanni and General Modigliani in Two Weddings, One Bride. In 2018, he adds Nachtigall in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg to his OA repertory.
Concert appearances include those with the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Darwin Symphony Orchestras, Sydney Philharmonia, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic and Orchestra Victoria. He was baritone soloist for Victoria Opera’s Gala Opening Concert, Opera Australia’s New Year’s Eve Gala, Opera in the Domain and Opera at the Bowl.
Andrew Jones appears on the Australian Cast recording of Essgee Entertainment’s The Merry Widow and on the Opera Australia/ABC Classics DVD presentation of Trial by Jury & HMS Pinafore.
