Andrea Ikker was born in 1969 in Székesfehérvár / Hungary. From the age of 7 years, she received on her own request flute lessons, a little later also piano lessons. Shortly thereafter, she was admitted to special support in Budapest as part of a special program for gifted children.
In 1980, the family emigrated to Germany, where Andrea Ikker was admitted in October 1980 as the youngest young student of all time at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. She received flute lessons from Klaus Schochow. In 1983 she was the first prize winner at the national competition Jugend musiziert and in the following years she received numerous prizes at competitions for young people.
In 1986 she began regular studies with Michael Debost at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique. After graduating with the first prize of the Conservatoire, she went to Cologne to study master classes with András Adorján. In 1991 she received a 2nd prize at the International Bodenseemusikwettbewerb and was awarded the German Music Competition in Bonn. Subsequently, she was admitted to the Federal Selection of Young Artists in 1992/93. From 1994 to 1997 she lived in the Ruhr area where she worked as a freelance concert flutist. In 1995 she was a laureate of the International Kuhlau Competition in Uelzen. During this time she also made her first experiences as a translator, mostly as an interpreter at fairs and congresses. In 1997, Andrea Ikker received a commitment in the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she is still employed. CD recordings with artists such as Axel Hacke and Christoph Well testify to their lively chamber music activity. In addition to her musical field of activity, Andrea Ikker has devoted herself intensively to the translation of beautiful literature since 2006. Among the authors she translates are names such as András Nyerges, Róbert Hász and Szilárd Rubin, as well as personalities such as Péter Nádas, whose works were brought to the German market by renowned publishers such as Knaus, Klett-Cotta and Rowohlt Berlin.
