Alvise Vidolin (Padua, 13 July 1949) is a musician, sound director and expert in Italian musical computer science.
Historical figure of sound and live electronics direction. After completing his first scientific and musical studies in Padua, he became Professor of Electronic Music at the "Benedetto Marcello" Conservatory in Venice.
Since 1974 he is a contract professor at the Center for Computational Sonology (CSC) of the Department of Electronics and Computer Science (DEI) of the University of Padua. In 1981 he was one of the founders of the Italian Music Informatics Association (AIMI), of which he was president from 1988 to 1990, and of which he is a member of the scientific committee. Beginning in 1977 he began collaborating with the Venice Biennale, as head of the Permanent Laboratory for Music Informatics of the Biennale (LIMB). For the Biennale he has curated several projects and events, including the International Computer Music Conference 1982 and the New Atlantis exhibition: the continent of electronic music from 1900-1986. Since 1990 he has held courses and seminars in electronic and computer music at the Contemporary Music Section of the International Academy of Music of the Civic Schools of Milan. From 1992 to 1997 he was responsible for the musical production of the Centro Tempo Reale in Florence. He is a member of the scientific committees of the GATM (Group of Analysis and Music Theory) and of the Luigi Nono Archive.
As a sound director and live electronics performer he has collaborated, both in Italy and abroad, with various composers, including: Claudio Ambrosini, Giorgio Battistelli, Luciano Berio, Aldo Clementi, Wolfango Dalla Vecchia, Franco Donatoni, Adriano Guarnieri, Luigi Nono, Salvatore Sciarrino.
As a teacher and essayist he has mainly dealt with music informatics and electronic music, on which he has published several essays of a scientific and popular nature and held numerous conferences on the relationship between music and technology.
