Allegra, a mezzo-soprano from Trumbull, Connecticut, graduated from the Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program where she was seen as Rosina in The Barber of Seville (Emerging Artist Performance), Tebaldo in Don Carlo, the Sister 2 in Provin’ Up, The Fox/A Rose in The Little Prince, Ruggiero in Alcina (Emerging Artist Performance), the title role of The Dictator’s Wife, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro (Emerging Artist Performance) and Kate Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly. She was also seen as Tancredi in Erminia with Opera Lafayette, Arsamenes in Xerxes at the 2017 Glimmerglass Festival as well as the roles of Olga in Eugene Onegin with Syracuse Opera and Isaura in Tancredi with Opera Philadelphia.
She was recently seen as Siebel in Faust at Washington National Opera, the title role of Carmen in a semi-stage production with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Agrippina in Nero and the Fall of Lehman Brothers with Ballet Opera Pantomime in Montreal, alto soloist in Beethoven 9th Symphony with the Phoenix Symphony, alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the New Haven Symphony.
She was a resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, PA, where she performed the role of Charlotte in Werther, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Zita in Gianni Schicchi. She earned her Masters Degree in vocal performance under the direction of Dr. Stephen King at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music where she was seen in the title role of Ariodante, Dorabella in Così Fan Tutte, Erminella in Volpone and Florence Pike in Albert Herring.
Allegra performed the role of Pippo in La Gazza Ladra in the Glimmerglass Festival 2016, where she was also the cover for the role of Betty Paris in The Crucible. In 2015 she performed the role of Fulvio in the American premier of Cato in Utica and covered the 3rd lady in The Magic Flute. In 2014 Allegra was a Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Artist, seen as Siegrune in the Die Walküre scene and Melibea in the Il Viaggio a Reims finale.
Allegra performed Mozart’s Requiem with the Choral Society of Washington, Handel’s Messiah with the New Haven Symphony. a baroque concert with Dolce Suono Ensemble in Philadelphia, singing arias from Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell and Rameau and the concert Utterly Romantic with the Jupiter Symphony in New York, where she sang selections from the works of Brahms and Rontgen. In 2015 she sang Ravel’s Shéhérazade with the Allen Philharmonic and Requiem for the Living and Mozart’s Laudamus Te and Alleluia with The Montgomery County Choral Society. She was featured as Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea and Jordan Baker in John Harbison’s The Great Gatsby at the Aspen Music Festival. In 2014 she was a soloist in Beethoven 9th Symphony in performances with the Naples Philharmonic and the Lexington Philharmonic.
As a 2011 Wolf Trap Opera Studio Artist, Allegra was the cover for Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. With Opera Theater of Connecticut she was seen as Flora in La Traviata, Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and the Monitor in Suor Angelica. She appeared as Dorabella in Così fan Tutte and Ruggiero in Alcina with Hillhouse Opera. She performed the roles of Romeo in I Capuleti e I Montecchi with Manhattan Chamber Opera, Ruggiero in Alcina with Opera Amis and both Dido and the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas with the Greater New Haven Community Chorus and Symphony.
Allegra was a 2015 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Finalist, after winning First Place in the Connecticut District and the New England Regionals. In 2016 she received Second Prize in the Jenson Foundation Competition and placed fifth in the Giulio Gari Competition. In 2014 Allegra won the gold medal in voice and was the Grand Prize winner in the Young Texas Artists Competition, as well as First Place in the Amici Vocal Competition. Allegra placed second in the National Opera Association’s Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition. In 2011 she was accepted into Houston Grand Opera’s inaugural program, the Young Artists Vocal Academy, and was a winner in both the Connecticut Opera Guild Young Artists Scholarship Competition and the Young Patronesses of the Opera Vocal Competition. She was accepted into Dolora Zajick’s Institute for Young Dramatic Voices, a program which she participated in for many years since its inception in 2007.
Allegra holds a master’s degree in voice from Rice and a BA magna cum laude in biology, with a neuroscience concentration and minors in both music performance under the direction of Dr. Stephen King and the honors program from Sacred Heart University.
