Born in Essen percussionist Alexej Gerassimez (* 1987) is as versatile as his instruments as a musician. His repertoire ranges from classical music and new music to jazz, minimal music and his own compositions.
As a soloist, Alexej Gerassimez is a guest of internationally renowned orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic and Konzerthausorchester Berlin under the baton of conductors such as Gerd Albrecht, Tan Dun, Kristjan Järvi, Eivind Gullberg Jensen and Michel Tabachnik. Alexej Gerassimez creates solo programs, is an avid chamber musician and performs with his own percussion group.
In order to bring the entire spectrum of instruments closer to his heterogeneous audience, he integrates not only the usual percussion and melody instruments but also objects from music-far-away contexts such as brake discs, barrels or propellers. His CD released by GENUIN was received enthusiastically by the press.
Alexej Gerassimez can look back on many other competitions besides the second prize of the 2014 ARD Music Competition. Alexej Gerassimez is a scholarship holder of numerous foundations such as the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. He completed his studies at the colleges of music in Cologne, "Hanns Eisler" Berlin and Munich.
Since November 2017 he has been a professor for drums at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich and as a guest lecturer at the Mozarteum Salzburg and the Birmingham Conservatoire.
