Alexander Vitlin studied music as a conductor at the Leningrad Conservatory (today's St. Petersburg University of music) with Prof. Ilya Mussin and as a Pianist with Prof. Vladimir Nielssen. In 1977 he won the All-Russian competition for pianists. Since 1994, Alexander Vitlin has held a professorship for proofreading at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. Before accepting Engagements abroad, he was chief conductor at various opera houses in Russia. He taught from 1990 to 1992 at the Rubin Musik Academy in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and was subsequently a soloist at the Komische Oper Berlin until 1995. From 2004 he was a guest soloist (for "Moses and Aron" and "Boris Godunov") at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Alexander Vitlin was musical assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the 2007 Salzburg Festival ("Eugen Onegin"). From 2007 to 2012, Alexander Vitlin was stage music director at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden; as musical assistant to Daniel Barenboim, he supervised the productions of Prokofiev's "the player", Tchaikovsky's" Eugen Onegin "and Rimsky-Korsakov's" the Tsar's bride "at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden as well as" the player "and" the Tsar's bride " at the Teatro alla Scala Milan.
