Alexander Buzlov (1983–2020) was one of the most brilliant and talented Russian musicians of his generation. According to the New York Times, he was “a cellist in the true Russian tradition, with a great gift for making the instrument sing, captivating the audience with his sound.”
Born in Moscow in 1983. In 2006, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (class of Professor Natalia Gutman). During his studies, he was a scholarship holder of the international charitable foundations of M. Rostropovich, V. Spivakov, N. Guzik (USA), "Russian Performing Arts". His name was included in the Golden Book of Young Talents of Russia "XX Century - XXI Century". In 2007-2020, he taught at the Moscow Conservatory. Conducted master classes in Russia, the USA and Europe.
The cellist won his first Grand Prix - "Mozart 96" - in Monte Carlo at the age of 13. A year later, the musician was awarded the Grand Prix at the "Virtuosos of the XXI Century" competition in Moscow, and also performed in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory at a concert dedicated to the 70th anniversary of M. Rostropovich. Soon followed victories at international competitions in Leipzig (2000), New York (2001), Jeuness Musicales in Belgrade (2005), the Grand Prix of the All-Russian competition "New Names" in Moscow (2000). In 2003, Alexander was awarded the Triumph Youth Prize.
In September 2005, he received 2nd prize at one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world - ARD in Munich, in 2007 he was awarded a silver medal and two special prizes (for the best performance of Tchaikovsky's music and a prize from the Rostropovich and Vishnevskaya Foundation) at the XIII International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and in 2008 he won second place at the 63rd International Cello Competition in Geneva - the oldest music competition in Europe. In 2010, he received the Grand Prix and the Audience Award at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. E. Feuermann in Berlin (2010).
