Born in Santiago de Cali ,Colombia, the mezzo-soprano Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa studied voice in the Conservaroty Antonio Maria Valencia in Cali.

She pursued postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, where she earned her diploma with honors. She was selected as a member of Cologne Opera’s “International Opera Studio” for the season of 2007/2008, which led her to appear in several productions with the opera house. She has been a member of the Cologne Opera ensemble since 2008. With the  Cologne Opera she’s sung amongst other things, the title role in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, the title role in Händel’s Rinaldo, Miss Jessel in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Dorabella in Così fan Tutte, Maddalena in Rigoletto,Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, the title role in Gustav Holst’s Savitri, Olga in Eugen Onegin and successfull Judit in Bartóks Bluebeard’s Castle.

In recognition of her outstanding vocal and theatrical contribution to Cologne Opera, she was awarded the Offenbach Prize in May 2012.

In 2016 Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa made her début at the Oper Festival Munich – Bayerische Staatsoper, for the opera Mauerschau in the lead roll of Penthesilea. This roll was written by composer Hauke Berheide with Adriana’s extensive vocal range and acting strenghts in mind.

She has worked under the conductors Gustavo Dudamel, Gianluca Capuano, Alain Altinoglu, Markus Stenz, Alessandro de Marchi, Christopher Moulds, Oksana Lyniv, Marc Piollet, Konrad Junghänel and Jan Latham-Koenig among others.
