About

French mezzo-soprano Adèle Charvet makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Mercédès (Carmen).

Charvet began singing aged six, and sang in various choirs, including the Maïtrise de Radio France. She went on to further studies in the département supérieur pour jeunes chanteurs du CRR de Paris, where she was a major prize-winner. As a choral singer she has worked with conductors including Kurt Masur, René Jacobs and John Nelson. Her operatic appearances include Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and Frau Reich (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor) for Paris Conservatoire, Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) for Opéra 3, Polovtsian Maiden (Prince Igor) for Dutch National Opera, Filipyevna (Eugene Onegin) for Verbier Academy 2017 (where she won the Yves Paternot Prize for most outstanding musician) and Adele (Il pirata) for Opéra national de Bordeaux. Other operatic roles include Wife of Bluebeard (Offenbach’s Barbe-Bleue) and Pepícek (Hans Krása’s Brundibár). Concert appearances include Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.

A keen performer of Lieder and French song, Charvet formed a duo with pianist Florian Caroubi in 2015. Together they won the Song Prize in the international Nadia et Lili Boulanger Competition, and have given many recitals in France and in the Netherlands. In 2016 they won the Lied Duo Prize and five other prizes at the 51st IVC Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch. In 2017 they performed a recital entitled Les Amours de Schumann(Lieder by Robert and Clara Schumann and Brahms) at Paris’s Petit Palais.
